An average house at an average price.
As someone who is currently looking for a house in the city, it seems like there are only two Options:
1. Under 120,000 in a bad neighborhood
2. At least 250,000 anywhere else.
Why is there no middle ground in this city?

Unfortunately, that extra 8-10 miles often means an additional 30-40 minutes of traffic each way.
I have friends that live in denham and walker who routinely have hour drives work

Yes unfortunately that's one of the downfalls of working close to downtown Baton Rouge. There are alot of reasonbly priced neighborhoods popping up across the river in Addis and Brusly. Ever thought about checking that way? You'd be against traffic both ways.

VDR has declined, but over all its still a good place.
The problem is areas around it have declined faster which leads to bleed over.
