Jan Waters Arrested in Husbands Slaying - 4 Years Later Still No Trial
The case of Jan Waters who is accused of killing her ex-husband Alan Waters in 2004 seems to have stalled out. It has been nearly 4 years since the murder and Waters, who was arrested and charged with the crime, is out on bail.
Detectives conducted an unconstitutional interrogation of Waters, a judge ruled. State District Judge Mike Erwin ruled the questioning of Jan Waters was unconstitutional because there was no proof she received her Miranda warnings before being questioned. Erwin also ruled the questioning was unconstitutional because Waters asked a lawyer friend, Tim Burgmeier, to accompany her into the interrogation room, but East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives did not allow it.
A hearing is scheduled for August 1st to see if jurors will be allowed to hear the statements obtained by detectives during her questioning. The prosecutor in the case, Brent Stockstill said he doesn't even intend to use Waters' statement at the trial because it didn't even contain any significant information. According to Stockstill, Waters stands to inherit a $6 million estate and has lawyers who are doing everything they can to delay the case.
Waters' story is that she was on her way to New Orleans and in a Kenner hotel and restaurant when deputies say her husband was killed. Her cell phone records and some receipts prove that she was at the Comfort Suites hotel on O'Neal Lane, about 4 miles from where her husband was killed.

I've been keeping up with this since she whacked him. She must have really wanted that house pretty bad. Looks like she'll have her own little place to live at the prison though.

Jan Water's murder trial or not
It has been four (4) years since Alan Waters was murdered (by his wife probably) and no trial. This is a clear example of how the rich can buy their way
out of anything, in this case, a murder trial. If she is innocent it would seem that she would want to be cleared of this murder charge and get on with her life and put this sorted mess behind her, but it is apparent she can afford to pay her attorneys to file whatever it takes to postpone a trial. 4 Years!!!! If they ever have a trial evidence will be missing, witnesses gone, etc. This is exactly what they want. This is unbelievable! And frankly it makes me sick that this can happen.
You can be if this was a poor, black woman she would have had a trial within the year and be sitting in jail.
What is the DA's Office doing.

You make a good point. I remember reading about this story and her lying about being out of town when she was in a hotel about 3 miles from the house. If anything spells guilty, that right there spells it out. I wonder if we can do a little digging and find out the disposition of this case. Anyone work for or know someone that works for the DA who may be able to shed a little light on this topic?

Why's she still running around free?
It's unreal... And how she can get away with spending HIS money to defend herself with her high priced lawyers is unbelievable to me. What is going on in the DAs office? 4 years and still no trial? Give me a break.
Anyone who knows her knows she was capable of killing him. The woman is an absolute lunatic who was a barmaid in new orleans when they met. She struck gold with Alan and knew it. Poor guy was too blind to see through her. I wasn't. She always gave me the creeps.
Jan Waters is a sociopath who doesnt feel remorse or guilt. She justifies everything she does, as long as it benefits HER.
Now bring on the trial. I'd love to see nancy grace cover this story. for some reason the local press doesnt seem to be interested in finding out whats going on. last I heard the trial was to start November or December 2007.

The Waters trial
I've emailed and emailed radio stations and newspapers trying to find out about this trial. This is really unbelievable that she is out on bail living on his money.

Why don't you email me and lets see if we can pull some strings and get some updates. I have a couple of contacts at the DA's office.
