Metro Council Awards $1 Million to Convicted Rapist
Gene Bibbins will receive $1million from the city of Baton Rouge for a wrongful conviction in a rape in 1986 that he was in jail for 16 years for. The same DNA test that cleared him of this rape connected him to a rape a year earlier. In the earlier case, the judge gave him credit for time served in the wrongful conviction, so he never had to serve another day.
Whats more, the city council approved a $1million payout in the wrongful conviction.
So we have a Baton Rouge man who is a convicted rapist and now a millionaire and a rape victim left with a lifetime of hurting.
Excellent job, Baton Rouge. Right on par.

This would be an excellent time for the girl who this jack ass raped to file a suit against him. Maybe the statute of limitations has run out, but who cares. She should get Paul Gates to accompany her to the court house to file the suit and be there when they tell her that the statute of limitations has run out. I think its a slap in the face of justice that a rapist is now a millionaire and the poor girl he raped can't get at that money. Something needs to be done here.

Why stop now? Last I checked, everyone in jail was falsely accused. I vote we should award all criminals a minimum of 10 grand These find upstanding citizens are having their lives stripped away from them. Take Bibbins for example, i'm more than positive that he took time away from his busy schedule in law school or perhaps med school, to commit this rape he was arrested for. No telling how many more there were that went unreported. We owe it to him to pay him this million dollars to make up for the time he would have spent making 6 figures a year. I'm sure he wasn't your typical thug bum criminal who just walked around the neighborhood all day drinking looking for criminal acts to commit, huh? These are all fine fine citizens by any standard. Great job EBR, for backing the citizens of Baton Rouge and righting the wrongs that we've commited against them. I'm sure this guy will do alot of good with this money. Free 40s for all his homies!

It;s not about a medal of honor, sweetie. If he didn't do the crime, he should not have served time. He deserves this $1 million. (Isn't that why he's getting it).
And always remember that Dana don't lie. (DNA, that is).
What part of this do you not get. HE IS INNOCENT. Now the victim and everyone else who really cares should find the real rapist.

Millionaire
I don't. I feel that since DNA proved his innocence, he is just that INNOCENT! DNA do not lie or change. They took years of this man life. It doesn't matter if he was poor, homeless, or a dam crackhead. He is human and he should be treatly fairly. If this was a white man, this probably wouldn't even be a topic discussion. And that's real talk! And the fact that he got a drug charge or is in jail is ignorance on his part but it doesn't change anything.

I guess you missed the part where the DNA test that cleared him in one rape, showed he had committed another....
