East Baton Rouge Parish prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Derrick Williams.
Williams is accused of shooting 71-year-old Alfred Mequet at Pete's Farmers Market, a fruit stand.
Aaron Brooks stated the district attorney's office felt it was appropriate to seek the death penalty.
Thursday, an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury returned a first-degree murder indictment.
Williams will be arraigned Friday morning.
