Baton Rouge police say some quick thinking bystanders are to thank for their latest arrest. Officers say a man robbed the Vina Cleaners on Monterrey, just north of Choctaw, and was about to rape a woman, when something spooked him.
Police say they only found the suspect because some witnesses wrote down his license plate number and followed him when he tried to get away. Early Thursday morning, detectives say 31-year-old Teddy Singleton walked into the dry cleaning business with a gun and robbed the place. He then tried to rape a woman. Police say something distracted him and he drove off.
Witnesses jotted down his plate number and followed him, and then tipped off the police. When they found him, police say Singleton had somewhat changed his appearance. "He had actually gone back to his apartment, gone inside, shaved his head, was leaving to make his escape when police took him into custody," says Sgt. Don Kelly.
Singleton is now at the parish prison. He will be charged with armed robbery and attempted forcible rape. Police are also checking to see if he's tied with any of the recent rash of armed robberies all over the city.
