A criminal investigation into alleged actions by the Baton Rouge Metro Airport police chief is unfolding and he is on administrative leave. Airport officials confirm that Chief David Anthony was relieved of his duties on Friday. He is officially on paid administrative leave until the results of a criminal investigation are complete.
Chief David Anthony's automobile is parked at the Baton Rouge airport, but he's not on duty Wednesday. The Zachary Police Department is investigating Anthony for alleged cyber crimes. A criminal complaint filed against Anthony by the mother of a 16-year-old girl resulted in the administrative leave.
"According to civil service rules, any time there is an allegation or a complaint or anything of that nature, the person is put on administrative leave and that is what happened as the complaints became known by the airport. So, he's on administrative leave," says airport spokesman Bill Profita.
Profita says the department is running fine and has an acting chief. He cautions that it's only an investigation at this point, and that no one should jump to conclusions. "There is an investigation. If he is cleared in this investigation, then everything is back to normal and the investigation is ongoing, so we don't have much to say."
A restraining order was signed by a judge on February 20th, ordering Anthony not to have any contact with the 16-year-old. A hearing is scheduled for Monday in city court on the restraining order, which is a civil matter, but related to the criminal complaint. We attempted to contact David Anthony, but were unsuccessful. The mother of the alleged victim asked that we respect her daughter's privacy and would not comment on the investigation. Lieutenant Daniel Ramsey is handling the interim duties.
