Secondly, if the roles were reversed, and it was 6 whites beating up a black student and the KKK and other "white" organizations showed up, would the public have the same reaction?
I understand there are racial lessons that need to be taught to some students and tolerence needs to be taught to both races in that town, but does being black really get you off the hook for assult in this day and age?

If the roles were reversed the only thing that would be different is that those goons, who proclaim to be reverands, would be there marching for the black victim asking for the death penalty for the 6 white guys who commited a hate crime and beat up a single black kid. In this idiotic march in Jena, they're giving the thumbs up to black people everywhere that its ok to team up and bash a white guy because if you do, we'll come there and get the charges dropped.
What the idiotic 'reverands' are missing is that this entire episode revolves around a crime, not just some act. No one asked any blacks to move to the back of the bus or get out of the white part of any restaurant. Some black kids commited and admitted to a crime and now a couple of black guys are trying to get the charges dropped. Only in America does an act of such extreme stupidty make national news and result in a bunch of people attempting to circumvent the justice system.
