Personally, I don't think this is a 'Baton Rouge' issue. No one except people who live in Baton Rouge really have a clue what its like on Roosevelt Ave. They can say its 'right off of LSU campus' all they want, but the truth is that this apt complex is right in the middle of the top 3 worse places in Baton Rouge as far as crime is concerned. On LSU campus may have been a much safer place even though that's only a few blocks away. Anyone who has ever left LSU campus on highland rd knows that as soon as you cross State St, you've entered 'the hood'. The classic symptomps are there as you drive farther away. Broken down woodframed houses, closed down business, liquor stores and convenience stores, groups of guys loitering at every one, constant pedestrian traffic every few hundred feet, etc. This apartment complex was right in the middle of all that. Don't let this be a black eye on LSU security or the crime problem with Baton Rouge in general. We all know that if LSU was near Town Center and Bocage, this probably would have never happened. Every city has their high crime areas. Unfortunately, as foreigners, these poor guys may not have realized what part of town they were living in until it was too late.
