City-parish Public Works officials have placed new 5-ton weight restrictions on two East Baton Rouge Parish bridges after receiving notice from DOTD bridge inspectors about critical deficiencies in both structures.
The new weight limits are being posted on the Woodland Ridge Boulevard Bridge over Jones Creek that provides the primary access to Episcopal High School, and on the Cloverland Avenue bridgeover Claycut Bayou between Siegen Lane and Airline Highway. (Please see maps in attachment).
The DOTD inspectors reported finding several crushed and deficient piles on the two bridges that were caused by decay and traffic loading. Public Works officials posted the new weight limits pending an evaluation and the formulation of a repair plan for both bridges.
Both bridges were among the 78 bridges that were slated for replacement under the Mayor’s proposed bond issue that was rejected by the Metro Council last month. The 78 bridges also include the North Flannery Bridge over Lively Bayou, which was ordered closed last month by DOTD inspectors who deemed it too dangerous to remain open to traffic.
