QRIGINAL:

Baton Rouge Police are investigating a fight that occurred around 1:30am on Friday August 19, 2011 outside Shady’s Bar located near the campus of Louisiana StateUniversity. During the early morning hours on Friday police interviewed four people who stated they were treated at a Baton Rouge hospital for injuries they sustained during the altercation. In addition to these four individuals police have also interviewed several witnesses that were present at the time of the fight.

Preliminary investigation information indicates that the fight started after an individual, one of the four injured, blew his horn to move a crowd out of his way in the parking lot.

Based on statements given by all persons interviewed police learned that members of the LSU football team were involved in the fight. The exact number of players present during the fight has not yet been determined. On Saturday August 20th police contacted LSU and asked that four LSU football players report to the Baton Rouge Police Headquarters on Monday August 22 at 9:00am so that investigators can interview them as to their alleged involvement in the fight.  The four football players that have been asked to report are Jordan Jefferson, Jarvis Landry, Chris Davenport and Josh Johns.

The four players have been asked to report to give their side of the story, they ARE NOT being asked to turn themselves in to be arrested. The investigation will continue after these interviews. It is possible that police will interview other members of the team at a later time.

Unbelievable. If I or any other Joe beat a guy so bad he had to go to the hospital, they would be rolling all over town trying to put us in cuffs, especially since they obviously had names from the get go. Here we have the police calling the University to ask if it would not be too much trouble, if they could ‘pretty please’, maybe if it’s alright with the AD and the Coach Lester, could he have the boys come down and answer a few questions.

Baton Rouge/LSU would be a funny joke, perhaps even an amusing story about a program off the rails, if it were not an actual joke masquerading as a University.

why is the NCAA not concerned with LSU arranging for free legal advice for its players? yes, we all have the right to counsel, but Nathan Fisher has a long history of representing LSU football players when they run afoul with the law (see Ryan Perrilloux, Derrick Odom, Chase Pittman, etc.). the message is pretty simple — if LSU athletes commit crimes, the university community will arrange for free legal representation. i think LSU has an ethics violation on its hands. don’t you?
