The Tea Party of Louisiana has endorsed Mickey McMorris in the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s race. McMorris is a retired State Trooper, with 25 years of service. He is also an accountant with a Criminal Justice Degree and has passed the CPA exam. “We are excited to announce our endorsement of Mickey McMorris,” said Bob Reid, spokesman for the Tea Party of Louisiana. “Mickey has been a member of the Tea Party movement from the beginning and a vital member of the Tea Party of Livingston Parish,” added Reid. “He is one of us. And we will do everything we can to make sure he is elected Sheriff of Livingston Parish,” said Reid.
The Tea Party of Louisiana has chosen to endorse McMorris because of his passion for the Constitution and the framework of American Government. As an accountant and former financial investigator for State Police, McMorris has pledged to return fiscal sanity to a Sheriff’s office known for deficit spending.
“The establishment Sheriff and his heir-apparent haven’t balanced a budget in years. They remind us of the big government deficit spenders in Washington,” said Reid. “It’s about time for America to get a balanced budget. And it’s about time for Livingston Parish to get one too,” added Reid.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s office has undergone harsh criticism lately for their archaic and sketchy accounting practices. While overseeing $20 Million annually in tax revenue, the office still uses handwritten ledgers and antiquated non-digital filing practices to keep track of what many feel is an enormous amount of money.
McMorris is considered an outsider by many to the establishment in Livingston Parish. In years past, the sitting Sheriff upon retirement has chosen his own replacement, and worked tirelessly to make sure their heir is elected. Sheriff Taft Faust picked Odom Graves to replace him. Odom picked his son Willie Graves. And now Willie is repeating the process by choosing 37 year old Jason Ard.
“These kinds of politics are exactly what the Tea Party has risen up against all over this great country. Our founders created a republic where the people were meant to choose their elected officials. If we wanted a monarch handing his job off to his heir, we would’ve have just stayed in England with King George,” added Reid. “It’s simply un-American,” Reid concluded.
The election will be held on October 22, 2011. You can learn more about Mickey McMorris’ plan to return fiscal sanity to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office at
