Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Jones Creek Road project at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011 in the project right-of-way area, with parking provided at Westminster Presbyterian Church (3701 Jones Creek Road). This ribbon cutting ceremony marks the 18th completed roadway construction project for the Green Light Plan.

“The improvements provided by the Jones Creek Road project are yet another progressive step towards a more efficient and interconnected arterial roadway system throughout East Baton Rouge Parish,” said Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden.  “When we see major projects like this one reach completion, we are able to see some great successes in action – but our job is not done yet.  Our work continues all across Baton Rouge as we remain committed to getting these Green Light Plan projects under construction and completed as quickly and safely as possible.”

With a total construction cost of $12,438,533.25, the improvements to Jones Creek Road include the widening of the previous two-lane, undivided roadway to a new, four-lane roadway that includes sidewalks, a raised median from Coursey Boulevard to South Harrell’s Ferry Road, and allows for bicycle access along the roadway.  The improvements included within the project also include major bridge upgrades consisting of a new bridge crossing at Jones Creek, shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of the bridge, and the re-alignment of the roadway at Jones Creek.  When combined with other projects in the Green Light Plan, the improvements to Jones Creek Road provide improved roadway capacity for Southeast Baton Rouge and tie into other projects focused upon improving safe, improved access and interconnection between Southeast Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish.
