Livingston Deputies Arrest Man in Alleged Rape of Holden Woman

Approximately 6:18 am on July 10, 2011 LPSO Deputies were dispatched to D Hutchinson Road near Holden, La. as a result of a 911 call made by a woman who had been raped. Deputies were told her attacker was still in the area. The responding Deputy located and pursued the suspect into Tangipahoa Parish where he eventually crashed the stolen Toyota Camry in which he was riding. With the assistance of Louisiana State Police, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Deputies with K-9s, a Blood hound team from Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, K-9s and a helicopter from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was taken into custody on US190 @ Baptist around 12:26 pm.

James Buvens, a 39 year old white male who listed his address as 29160 Red Oak Drive, Walker,La. was charged as follows:

  • 1 Count Aggravated Flight from an Officer
  • 1 Count Illegal Possession of Stolen Things
  • 1 Count False Imprisonment with a Dangerous Weapon
  • 1 Count Aggravated Rape
  • 1 Count Home Invasion
  • 1 Count Aggravated Battery
  • 1 Count Criminal Damage to Property over $500
  • 1 Count Simple Theft

Outstanding warrants for Home Invasion, Simple Battery, Simple Criminal Damage toProperty, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Aggravated Assault

Buvens is also facing charges in Tangipahoa Parish. Authorities determined that the victim intoday’s crime as well as in the outstanding warrants was the estranged girlfriend of the suspect.

Buvens is currently incarcerated in the Livingston Parish Detention Center awaiting the setting of bond.
