Members of the LSU and greater Baton Rouge communities can use their leisure time to discover a new craft, polish a skill or learn to play a sport or musical instrument without investing a lot of time or money. The Summer 2011 LSU Student Union Leisure Class brochure and registration form are now available online at www.lsu.edu/leisureclasses.

Leisure Classes have something for everyone with classes in the following categories: calligraphy, clay, communication, culture & travel, dance, drawing & painting, fitness, health & sports, food & drink, glass crafts, home improvement, jewelry, language, music, outdoors, paper crafts, personal growth, professional development, photography, self defense and woodcarving.

Included in the summer schedule are 65 non-credit, personal enrichment classes, with 16 new and exciting topics. New clay classes include “hand building,” “tile making” and “wheel throwing.” Leisure Classes are also offered in oil painting based on the free-spirited Alla Prima method, as well as in watercolor painting exploring the use of color. “Handwriting analysis” and “self defense made easy” are two new classes that will prove to be both practical and useful and our new landscape design class “Louisiana landscapes” is sure to be a hit. New language classes include “Hebrew,” “Russian” and “Louisiana Creole.” “Hustle & west coast swing” and “line dancing” have been added to the dance class line-up and “glee club for grown up gals” and “sushi” are back due to popular demand. One other class to note is “golf: juniors,” a class designed specifically for children ages 12-16.

Classes are small and spaces fill up quickly so those interested in participating are encouraged to register early. Prices are reasonable and discounts are available to LSU students and Leisure Classes members. Acceptable methods of payment include American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, personal check or cash. To request a free copy of the Summer 2011 brochure, to register for classes or to obtain more information regarding membership, visit www.lsu.edu/leisureclasses.
