Summer CampUs at LSU will hold two residential camps for high school students in June to explore architecture as a career, or to conduct hands-on field research in Lee Memorial Forest with environmental researchers.

The new Eco Discovery Camp will allow high school students to investigate a variety of topics that affect the ecosystem including pollution, water quality and species interaction. Students will live, explore and perform research in the 1,200 acres of Lee Memorial Forest in Washington Parish. The Eco Discovery Camp is led by LSU faculty members and graduate students from the LSU School of Renewable Natural Resources and the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences.

Summer CampUs at LSU will also hold the Architecture Discovery Workshop, which will give high school students the opportunity to meet professional designers, attend field trips and create designs through interactive studio sessions. The Architecture Discovery Workshop is hosted by the LSU School of Architecture and students will live on the LSU campus during the week.

“These residential camps provide high school students the chance to experience LSU, learn about new subjects and stay active during the summer,” said Kristy Anthony, director of LSU Pre-College Programs. “LSU Pre-College Programs has partnered with departments throughout the university to create many wonderful and educational programs for all ages this summer.”

The Eco Discovery Residential Camp will be held June 5-10 and the Architecture Discovery Workshop will take place June 5-11. The camps are open to any student entering grades 9-12.

Parents are encouraged to register their student by May 20 to qualify for the early registration discount. For registration information about the residential camps and other Summer CampUs at LSU programs visit www.outreach.lsu.edu/precollege or call 225-578-2500.
