Baton Rouge Police Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting involving a Baton Rouge Police Officer that occurred last night at Club Insomnia, 9770 Cortana Place around 1:43am.

Uniform Officers were in the parking lot of the club investigating a complaint of a disorderly female when they observed a vehicle being operated in a reckless manner. Officers contacted the driver, Ryan Dominique, 21, of Mast Dr. in Baton Rouge, who was taken into custody after not complying with officer’s commands. While in police custody Dominique requested that his friend, Carlos Harris, 23, of Stern Dr. in Baton Rouge, take possession of his vehicle. Officers allowed Harris to take the vehicle and asked him to leave the area.

As Harris proceeded to leave the parking lot he crashed into several parked vehicles. After crashing into the vehicles multiple times Harris directed the vehicle toward an area where officers were standing and accelerated toward them. One of the officers fearing for his life and those in the area, fired at Harris striking him in the upper torso.

While officers were attempting to secure the scene they heard several gunshots in the area. Officers later found that a 23 year old female was struck in the arm as she sat inside her vehicle. Officers were not injured during the shooting.

Harris and the female were transported to Baton Rouge General Hospital Midcity. Harris later died of his injuries and the female remains hospitalized with nonlife threatening injuries. Dominique was later charged with Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Resisting Arrest.

The Police Officer involved in the shooting  is identified as Christopher Magee, 42. Magee has three years experience with the Baton Rouge Police Department. He remains on paid administrative leave as per departmental protocol

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with any information is urged to contact the Homicide Division at 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP

So they shot this kid dead because he was unfamiliar with his friend’s car and the police didn’t like the way he was trying to drive off?

Good heavens, people. Are we so angry that we can no longer apply some common sense?
