East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a man this evening believed to be responsible for the on-the-road shootings early Sunday morning.
Jason Robert Wyrick, 26, of 422 Misty Creek Drive is charged with 4 Counts Attempted First Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, Illegal use of a Weapon and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.
Detectives believe Wyrick encountered the first victims, a man and a woman, while driving on Acadian near Perkins at approximately 3:00 a.m. Sunday. Wyrick allegedly passed them and made an obscene gesture at them before brandishing a weapon and firing at their vehicle while on Jefferson Highway near Drusilla Lane and I-12. This vehicle was not struck. Wyrick allegedly fired at the second vehicle, driven by a woman, near Jefferson Highway and Essen Lane. This vehicle was struck one time. Wyrick allegedly fired on a third vehicle at Airline Highway near Old Jefferson Highway. This vehicle was struck multiple times.
Through the investigation, detectives gathered information that led them to Wyrick, who they believe was driving his light-colored Ford Escort when he fired at the three different vehicles.
Detectives executed a search warrant today at Wyrick’s residence where they seized his vehicle and a weapon that met descriptions provided by the shooting victims. These items will be sent to LSP Crime Lab for analysis.
Detectives are still conducting interviews and gathering evidence at this time.
