Shreveport Police detectives are investigating the city’s first homicide after a man was shot and killed while allegedly committing a home invasion.

At approximately 10:09 p.m. last night, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Sussex St. relative to a home invasion call. Upon arrival, officers discovered 29 year old Willie Lee Baker suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg and 22 year old Joseph Taylor suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Both Baker and Taylor were transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department where Taylor was pronounced deceased and Baker was treated for what has been described as a non-life-threatening injury.

Detectives have learned that Joseph Taylor and an unidentified accomplice entered Baker’s residence armed with a handgun and threatened to kill a female victim and a juvenile victim who were in the home. Taylor and the other suspect began to ransack the home and fired shots in an apparent attempt to intimidate the victims. During the course of the robbery, Willie Lee Baker arrived home and was confronted by the suspects. Baker advised investigators that Taylor shot him in the leg and then a physical altercation ensued during which Baker was able to gain control of the weapon. Baker then shot Taylor.

Detectives are working at this time to identify and apprehend the second suspect. Anyone with any information regarding this case is urged to call Shreveport Police Detective Shawn Hinderberger at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.

Willie Lee Baker was found guilty of 1st degree murder in 2002. He and three other people robbed and killed Johnny, an air force officer in Bossier City, Louisiana. During the time that Willie Baker was serving his sentence he also was given a new charge. While incarcerated in Caddo Parish, Mr. Baker and two other inmates beat a fellow inmate, leaving this man with a wired jaw. The two men which assisted Mr. Baker in the brutal attack were serving time for Home Invasion robbery and murder. The Home Invasion story was similar to that which Mr. Baker claims in his case. Is this a coincidence or what???? I would say, highly unlikely! Both cases which involved Mr. Baker are found publicly on Internet. What I find so strange about this case is how the “saw called” second assailant hasn’t been further pursued. One would think that this person was dangerous or could even provide some very crucial information in this case or others. It shouldn’t be too difficult locating a parolee who should be in contact with his assigned officer. What about his recent jail sentence? I mean, the man was right there locked up and secure. I would imagine he would be easy to make contact with then, after no longer being on the run. It is my educated guess that Mr. Baker and the invader, Mr. Taylor had some bad deal that went down and Baker had to cover his tracks. A Felon can’t be in possession of a firearm, this would mean major parole violation. This man spent enough time residing among some of the best criminals. He earned a criminal justice credit or two while doing his time. I’m sure he was able to map out every single thread needed to create such a believable story. He knew how to operate his plan and followed through. Now, one might ask, “what about the woman and child”? Well, that’s quite simple. If you’re raised among wolves you’ll act and live as a wolf yourself. There’s nothing genetic about that. It’s called, learned behavior, and it starts the moment one’s exposed to it. My guess would be that it had something to do with illegal drugs or weapons. Only a guess! If Mr. Baker continues this pattern of criminal misconduct he will no longer need such elaborate means of operations. He will be operating a license plate machine from the pen. Atleast then our state will be getting back some of this man’s labor in exchange of the years he didn’t file taxes on his alleged income as a “Hustler”

I find your article to be quite interesting. I checked online to see if you had your facts straight. It seems like you’ve done your homework. I wonder why this information was never released at the time this all spread throughout the media. How do you know the things you’ve posted? Were you there? There is a lot of talk on the streets and people are saying that Taylor was killed in cold blood by Baker. They say it was over a rivalry that had been going on. It’s been said that baker is an informant and that’s how he keeps getting off. He was behind a burglary that took place at Taylor’s house before this happened and somebody told Taylor baker had his items and Taylor went to confront him. I don’t know what happened that night but I believe Taylor was killed and then made to look like a self defense act. Why did this man shoot Taylor in the back of head after he already shot him in lung? Wouldn’t that indicate the man was trying to flee with his back turned from baker? I thought you couldn’t kill someone once they no longer posed a threat to you. Taylor had a large sum of money in his pocket when they found him. To me this would imply a possible drug buy. I heard these men put a mouth grill in Taylor’s mouth and put a ski mask on him to make it look like a home invasion done by a true thug. Taylor wouldn’t have to rob anyone because he had a full time job and came from family with money. His grandfather was a doctor and his parents owned their own business. This doesn’t sound like someone needing to rob a house. Especially if you have a wad of cash in your pocket. This guy wasn’t in need of anything baker had. Something smells real fishy here! I knew Taylor and he had just become a father. This guy loved kids! He’d give kids in the neighborhood snacks when they saw him unloading groceries then he’d tell them ok go home now before you eat up all my food. All the kids liked him because he was so funny and kind to them. He would never do the things this man accused him of. This was one piece of information baker told the police that didn’t add up to the ones that knew Taylor. This was his first error made in his report. Taylor wouldn’t have gone to some thugs house at night not knowing who was there and rob him. He knew the kind of man baker was. He wouldn’t be stupid like that. If Taylor was drunk like it was said then I really know this didn’t make sense because he was a sleepy weepy drunk. I saw how he acted when he drank and it made him pass out after he got all weepy and depressed. I think Taylor had made a name for himself with the police because he was a white man living in a hood and dressed gangsta. They assumed he was involved in some bad stuff. His police record only shows two charges and they were both dismissed. One was a dwi and a distribution charge at 17. He attended a drug program in exchange of the charges. He also had a loud music and tented window charge. Wow! He was one heavy criminal. His guns were registered in his name and you can’t do that if your a hard core criminal of a felon. Baker has a track record and rap sheet longer than the Nile river. He’s been charged with murder, drugs, illegal weapons, burglary, domestic violence, assault, and the list goes on. What does this tell you? I think this guy does more than draw a disability check for a living. I don’t think justice was carried out in this case. It’s sad because this family has gone through more than the loss of their loved one. They are good people and continue to live as good people. All they’ve said is that they never want harm on anyone else like this. They don’t even want harm on baker. Taylor’s mom said she only wanted this man to find Jesus in his life and live a good life. That’s messed up! I know there are good people in this world but man how do you get passed losing a kid and then forgiving the one that did it. These people are so faithful in religion that they can’t even hate this man. I just wish somebody would come out with the truth because it’s not justice when a felon gets off looking like a soldier fighting for his country. He even killed one of our soldiers. To me that puts him in the category of a police officer. He didn’t get justice either though because bakers still walking the streets. Sometimes with a cane and sometimes without. My taxes are helping with that too! It’s all good though. Time always catches up with a lie and the truth is revealed. Taylor’s mom now works to help kids that have committed crime rehabilitate. She says she needs to try and save these kids from the streets. I can’t understand this woman but I admire her efforts to change what will never be changed in our system. I guess she gets her therapy doing this kind of work. I hope you are able to find the truth someday and give this man and his family the support they deserve. Thanks for the post I found it when I was googling my boys name. DD/Shreveport, La
