East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives are looking for those responsible for breaking in to Capital Buick, Pontiac GMC used car lot located at 11055 Airline Hwy. and stealing eleven vehicles Saturday night.
According to reports, the thieves entered the office through a broken window and took the keys from the office. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the eleven vehicles missing from the lot.
That night, Baton Rouge Police recovered the first vehicle on the 4600 block of W. Brookstown, where it had been wrecked and abandoned. Also that night, Louisiana State Police attempted to stop another one of the stolen vehicles on I-10 Westbound at Hwy 641. The vehicle, which was occupied by two men, wrecked on Hwy 44, North of I-10. The driver, an unknown black male, fled on foot and was not apprehended. The passenger, Brandon Sanders, 29, was apprehended and arrested for Illegal Possession and booked into Ascension Parish Prison.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Auto Theft Detectives, assisted by Baton Rouge Police Auto Theft Detectives, recovered seven of the other vehicles throughout Sunday and Monday. The tenth stolen vehicle was recovered this morning. Detectives found the vehicles parked at various locations, mostaly apartment complexes, in the area.
Detectives are still looking for the last stolen vehicle, a 2009 gray Ford F150. This is an ongoing investigation.
